Know Him, Love Him, Share Him
Know Him...
Encouragement from John and Brenda. Thought for your journey:
" Every problem bares a crossroads of being a better person or a bitter person."
Love Him...
Pint Size Pulpit
For God so loved the world… I am not so sure that I love the world. I love my family. I love my church family. I love Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and Buffalo Wings. I love volleyball. I love technology. I love sweet people who know when to go home. I love going to new places and seeing new things. I even love peanut butter and dill pickle sandwiches. You see, I love my world.
But what about the world? That mass of humanity that is “selfish, smug, self-righteous, and downright wicked?” Those people who use and abuse time and time again? For all of its problems and unresolved issues…this is God’s world. And God loves His world. God does not love people because they are good; he loves people because he made us! He does not love us because we exist; we exist because he loves us.
Jim McGuiggan draws this contrast, “We on the other hand, often love only what humanity should be. We rejoice in the not-yet-existent person. We barely tolerate the person before us, and then our tolerance lasts only as long as it appears we can hope for change. Our stingy obsession that someone out there is getting away with something is so unlike the joyful Lord who sought the company of sinners and so unlike the attracting, drawing, and holy Christ who was sought by the sinners and outcasts.”
God loves you and me in our little congregation in New Jersey with the same love that He loves Jabr and Faiha in their little mosque in Syria. And God demands that we love Jabr and Faiha like He does. Not because they ‘belong’ to our world, but because they belong to His world. All people-sinners and saints alike-matter to God! How do I know that God loves that person you can’t stand? …He gave his one and only Son… Living in His world,we exist because he loves us.
we exist because he loves us.
Daniel.
