Call to Worship

The Lord reigns; he is robed in majesty.
Your throne, O God,
is established from of old;

Your decrees are very sure.
Holiness befits your house,
O Lord, for evermore.
Amen.

Know Him, Love Him, Share Him

Know Him...
Encouragement from John and Brenda. Thought for your journey:

Stop Giving In and Start Giving.

Giving in belittles the other person; giving affirms.  Giving in takes away; giving bestows. Giving in says, “I tolerate you”; giving says, “I love you.” Giving in causes resentment; giving brings happiness and joy. James S. Woodroof

Love Him...

Pint-Sized Pulpit

After three ghosts have visited him on Christmas Eve, Ebenezer Scrooge finds it difficult to return to sleep. For as he says to the fourth and final ghost, “Of the spirits that visit me tonight, it is you spirit I fear the most.” The Ghost of Christmas Future has the power to show Ebenezer things that will be.
The future is unknown. We live both in trepidation and in anticipation of what will be. As a parent, I am anxious to see the young men my sons will be. the young woman my daughter will be. As a parent, I am slow to want them to grow up too quickly, for a world that will not love them like their parents do. As individuals, we live in fear of losing our incomes, in fear of losing loved ones, but also in anticipation of earning the rewards of labor and the promise of new life. The past can be revisited, the present is tangible, but the future....
Scrooge fretted constantly over his wealth, but did not seek to please God and ease the burdens of his fellowman. He invested his wealth in himself, but did not invest himself in others. When The Ghost of Christmas Future came to him, he was in terror of death, and in remorse of his life.
I wonder how many people on this earth, in our wealthy nation today, have all the income they want, but are sick of their life and afraid of losing it. I wonder how many of us could face an encounter with the Future this morning. But instead of pointing to a grave marker with your name on it, the ghost of the future would point to the living markers we will all leave behind. You see the Ghost of Christmas Future, the Ghost of Giving future, is the present and abiding Spirit of Christ.
Is he not here today pointing to the children? Look at them now in the present. In a few short years the ones we can whisk off the floor into our arms will be driving, dating, working, wedding, mating. Hopefully in that order. Some of us who are parents will find that we are grandparents in this decade. Would not the ghost of giving future point to the children?
But would the spirit of Christ stop with our children? Would he not point to our own faith, the living marker we leave with others? Surely he would take us outside this building and into the streets, into our own neighborhoods, into our work places and play places and begin pointing at friends, co-workers, loved ones! Would he have us not give the gift of salvation to those whom we give gifts at Christmastime?! How sad to give a child visions of sugarplums, X-Box, and cash but not give them hope and peace and a vision of a future with the living God!

I wonder how many of us could face an encounter with the Future this morning
