Call to Worship

O the depth of your riches and wisdom and knowledge, O God!
How unsearchable are your judgments and how inscrutable your ways!
For who has known your mind, or who has been your counselor?
Or who has given a gift to you that they might be repaid?
For from you, and through you, and to you are all things.
To you be glory forever!
Amen.

Announcements

Scrub, Scrub, Scrub lots of nursery toys in a tub
Terry is looking for volunteers to stay after worship today to clean and disinfect the nursery toys. This should only take about 15 minutes if enough people help out.

Hippidy Hoppidy the egg hunt is on its way!
Please, sign the commitment list on the foyer table indicating that you will set aside the morning of the hunt, Saturday, April 12th, to help out. It is also time to start filling eggs. If you are interested in filling them  see Brenda or Benja.

Do you have any plastic Easter eggs you would like to donate for the egg hunt? If you do, please bring them in by March 2nd and let Benja or Brenda know as we will need to purchase the balance of what is not donated.

There is a list on the foyer table of all the children at Laurelwood.  Please fill in your child’s/children’s birth date and grade, so that Barbara will be able to see which class each child should be assigned to.  If that information is already included please, verify that it is correct.  If it is not make any necessary changes. Thanks

Know Him, Love Him, Share Him

Know Him...
Encouragement from John and Brenda. Thought for your journey:

When we walk step by step with God through each crisis, we will see Him do a miraculous work of transforming, restoring, and healing.

Love Him...

Pint Size Pulpit

"4Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD; 5and you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might.” Deuteronomy 6:4-5

The Shema (verse 4 above) is the ‘creed’ of the monotheistic faiths. There is only one Lord, there is only one God. It can be difficult for people in our world to believe in one God-as one Unitarian I spoke with said- “I believe in one God-at the most!”
On the other hand, neo-paganisms are on the rise, groups that espouse a ‘Wicca’ worldview (‘witches’ and worship and ritual control of natural forces).
And for all of us, we can be tempted to ignore some of the implications of doctrinal propositions. See? You just fell asleep when you read the terms ‘doctrinal’ and ‘proposition’ used together in one sentence!
There are, however, important insights to this most basic shared belief between the church and the synagogue. Today, I would like to focus on, well,... ONE.
Believing in one God (v.4) leads directly into our love for that God (v.5). Because we believe in one God, one Lord (cf. Eph. 4) our love for God is ALL consuming. We cannot allow ourselves to become distracted with material things, with religious excesses, with worldly successes. The forces of nature that others worship are not gods, but mere creation...in the same way the forces of our age, possessions and pride, can tempt our hearts, our souls and minds away from the one Lord—and we become servants of many ‘lords.’
Believing in one Lord means that our hearts cannot be divided–our faith is indivisible- we must love with ALL.
Commit your entire heart, soul and might today!

Because we believe in one God, one Lord our love for God is ALL consuming..

Til Next Week— Daniel
